MK3 / A70

A70 / JZ-POWERED APPLICATIONS / VERIFY THE CURRENT SETUP

The MK3 is the A70-generation Supra. Our focus here is JZ-powered examples: the 1JZ-GTE has a factory A70 application, but not every MK3 left Toyota with that engine. On an older or modified car, identify the installed engine, drivetrain and supporting hardware before planning service or upgrades.

02 / SERVICE NEEDS

Establish the baseline.

Areas to evaluate, depending on history and modifications.

Engine & supporting systems — Confirm the installed JZ configuration; assess cooling, fuel, ignition, fluids, leaks and turbo hardware where applicable.

Drivetrain & chassis — Evaluate transmission, clutch, differential, brakes and suspension according to symptoms and history.

Integration & previous work — Understand wiring, swap integration and existing modifications before recommending changes.

03 / UPGRADE PATHS

A plan, not a parts list.

Street Refresh

Establish service history and address cooling, fluid leaks, worn suspension, brakes and driveline needs before adding more load.

Street Performance

Improve the existing combination with appropriate cooling, braking, suspension and drivetrain support for a dependable street car.

High Performance

Plan engine, fuel, cooling, clutch, transmission and differential requirements together with brakes and chassis control.

04 / FAQ

MK3 / A70 questions, answered.

Can you work on a JZ-swapped MK3?

Share the engine, transmission and known conversion details so we can confirm the scope. A 2JZ-powered MK3 is a modified configuration; we assess its installation and supporting systems accordingly.

I just bought a JZ-powered MK3. Where do we start?

Bring any records and describe current symptoms and goals. Establishing the installed combination and its condition helps prioritize maintenance, repairs and later upgrades.

Can you evaluate previous-owner modifications?

We can discuss diagnostics and mechanical evaluation of the existing work. Records, component details and a clear description of the concern help define the right starting point.

What should I address before increasing power?

Start with engine condition and the capacity of fuel, cooling and drivetrain systems, then include braking and suspension needs. The priorities depend on the current car and intended use.

MK4 / A80

A80 / 2JZ-GE & 2JZ-GTE / INDIVIDUAL CONFIGURATIONS

The MK4 is the A80-generation Supra, with factory naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE and twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE applications. Not every MK4 is turbocharged. On modified examples, the engine designation is only a starting point: the installed turbo, fuel, cooling and drivetrain combination shapes the plan.

02 / SERVICE NEEDS

Establish the baseline.

Areas to evaluate, depending on history and modifications.

Engine & fluid systems — Identify GE or GTE and current modifications; evaluate engine condition, cooling, fuel delivery, ignition and fluids.

Turbo & integration — Where fitted, understand the turbo hardware and supporting systems, including wiring and previous changes.

Complete-car condition — Assess transmission, clutch, differential, brakes and suspension in the context of symptoms, history and intended use.

03 / UPGRADE PATHS

A plan, not a parts list.

Street Refresh

Address maintenance, cooling, fluid condition, leaks and age-related chassis wear to establish a dependable foundation.

Street Performance

Match cooling, brakes, suspension and drivetrain improvements to the current GE or GTE combination and everyday use.

High Performance

Plan the engine and any turbo changes alongside fuel delivery, cooling, transmission, differential, braking and chassis support.

04 / FAQ

MK4 / A80 questions, answered.

Do you service both 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE Supras?

This page covers both factory engine families. Tell us which engine and supporting hardware are currently installed so we can confirm the service scope for your car.

What should be inspected on a modified MK4?

The starting point depends on its history and symptoms. Engine condition, cooling, fuel, wiring integration and drivetrain support may all affect the plan, alongside brakes and suspension.

Can you evaluate an existing turbo, fuel and cooling combination?

We can discuss assessing the installed hardware and mechanical concerns. Component details and your intended use help establish compatibility and identify supporting-system needs.

Does a turbo conversion make a GE car a factory GTE?

No. A modified 2JZ-GE configuration should be identified as such. We plan around the engine and parts actually installed, rather than assuming factory GTE specifications.

CONDITION BEFORE COMPONENTS

START WITH THE COMBINATION YOU HAVE

The JZ platform is only part of the combination. Before adding another component, understand the condition and configuration of the Supra already in front of you.

MK3 or MK4, GE or GTE, factory installation or engine swap: each starting point changes the service plan. Existing modifications, vehicle history, symptoms and intended use guide the evaluation.

Where appropriate, checks may include engine identification and condition, compression or leak-down, turbo hardware, cooling, fuel delivery, ignition, fluids, ECU and wiring integration, transmission, clutch, driveshaft, differential, brakes, suspension and previous modifications.

The car does not automatically need every test. Establish the baseline, identify the supporting-system limitations and prioritize the work that fits the vehicle and its goal.

SUPPORT THE COMPLETE COMBINATION

POWER IS ONLY ONE PART OF THE COMBINATION.

Fuel, cooling, drivetrain, brakes and suspension should support the same goal as the engine. Choose hardware around the actual configuration, confirm compatibility and plan the installation before ordering the next part.
